Final Assignment Two Work- Drawings

Throughout my plans,sections and axonometric I wanted to show the materiality of the building such as the reinforced concrete for the walls to deal with the idea of a tomb and ground or soil to represent thye feeling of being inside a grave or tomb. As well as shadows and reflections to get an idea of how the emotions of the room look like, which can be shown by the ceiling window openings.

Plans

With the plans, what I intended to do is flatten the geometric containers of the room and break them up into three or four pieces. This is to ensure that there's no confusion of the plan and to show which pieces represent the walls and the floors of the room.

Plan One- BL One- Home Theatre Room, Where the widow watches DVDs with her partner as good memories

Plan Two- BL Two- Memories Room, where the widow has photos of good memories with her partner as well as gifts or presents from her partner.

PlanThree- BL Three- Bedroom and Office/Computer, computer is used for the widow to have a look at her memories of her partner with Facebook, MySpace etc. Also her favourite photos with the partner and favourite gifts the partner gave.

Sections

As you can see, what I wanted to do with the design for the rooms, I wanted to create a set of apartment rooms. With the rooms, I wanted to play around with reducing the size by starting of with bigger size then finishing off with smaller size. The reason why I want to play around with this is to deal with the emotions of depression and lonliness. I also want to show the nature of the rooms with the staircases as a steep hill to show that people don't want to enter these rooms because of fear and depression.

My Architectural Inspiration for Assignment Two: Yad Vashan Holocaust History Museum by Moshide Safide

This building from an Canadian-Israeli architect, Moshide Safidie clearly gives some clever personalities which clearly relate to Edward Hopper's painting, "The Morning Sun". Safidie as we can see clearly deals with the emotional and depressing side of "The Morning Sun" painting, by the darkness and mysterious aspects of the building interior. When an individual goes inside the building, the individual feels as though they don't want to stay inside this kind of building due to its scary and depressing feel as they feel like they want to get out in a bright world. This buidling has given me some ideas of how I can deal with the personalities, the important aspects with Hopper's paintings and the materiality of the rooms.

About the Research for Assignment Two

With the research, I thought it would be best to head down to the COFA library to find out valuable information about the painting of "Morning Sun" as well as small background about the painter, Edward Hopper. What I found interesting about Hopper is that he uses ladies in interiors of a room. Hopper also uses relections of lighting to deal with emotions of the painting.

With the collated research, I started to refine the narrative for my assignment.

Explanation of Assignment One

As you know, me and my partner Deepika are working on Geoffery Bawa's villa whom the client was supposed to be Dr Batholuzweuz however the practice ended up using the building. What's interesting about the building is that it has a mixture of interior and exterior spaces. The exterior spaces can be revealed by the courtyards at the front, middle and end of the villa. We see that this villa has interior to exterior transitions and exterior to interior transitions. The front building of the villa is usually for the servants or low class people, then as you move to the main buildings we see that the far right enclosed spaces serve the office for Geoffery Bawa and the administrative department.
